KINOUIKO

KINOU (昨日)

  • 昨 : a kanji character often used as a prefix to add the meaning of ‘last’ to its following word.

  • 日 : a kanji character often used to mean ‘day’.

  • (in metaphysics) the subject or object of self-consciousness; the ego.

K.O

  • to knock unconscious.

The combination of the three words to form "kinouiko" (pronounced: key-no-ee-koh) symbolises the death of who I was as of yesterday. An act of rebirth; acknowledgement that I am in the constant state of outgrowing.

As a practicing fine artist, it is my artistic goal to create sculptural objects, photographs, and, or productions that people can relate to. Especially now, I am moving forward from an artist in solitude, to becoming an art teacher.

Relatable art moves viewers to empathise and listen to the medium the artist speaks through which is an important element in art making. It makes seeing a memory therefore unforgettable.

The idea of tangibility (object impermanence) and self-exhaustion is often incorporated in my works in the sense my productions are exclusive to the moment of creation which will last for a short period of time before breaking down. This encourages my audience to photograph my installations which doubles as documentation.

I started venturing into the arts in early 2016. Across the entire years of being in school, I managed to pick up skills in numerous forms such as digital art, social marketing, pottery making, photography, and countless other art making styles. I have also dabbled in wearable mediums such as screen printing, sewing, and jewelry making.

My current artist inspirations are Damien Hirst, Sun Yuan, Anish Kapoor, and Chiharu Shiota. Their influence can be commonly seen in the aesthetic execution of my works.
